UW CSE's educational and research initiatives are only possible through the philanthropic support of a number of key corporations. Among our special partners:
Ford Motor Company has provided $1.5 million in support for embedded systems research and education in EE and CSE at the University of Washington. Ford Motor Company
    Intel Corporation has provided several million dollars worth of PC's to our department over the past few years, both for research and for education. Microsoft Corporation has made all of their software available free of charge for every undergraduate major, graduate major, staff member, faculty member, and instructional or research lab system in the department. Microsoft also provides support for the UW/Microsoft Summer Research Institute in Computer Science, and for staff to assist our efforts to integrate Windows NT into our computing environment. Tektronix Corporation has provided state-of-the-art oscilloscopes and logic analyzers used in our instructional and research hardware design laboratories. Tektronix Corporation
WRQ has made their Reflection Suite for X (X-windows for PC's, allowing easy access to Unix back-ends from Windows desktops) available free of charge for every undergraduate major, graduate major, staff member, faculty member, and instructional or research lab system in the department. Jeremy and Linda Jaech provide essential support for our efforts to include disadvantaged persons in our programs.


Endowments

Endowed Chairs, Professorships, and Scholarships are essential to maintaining the quality of our programs.

Professor David Notkin was named the Boeing Professor of Computer Science & Engineering in Autumn 1999. This professorship was created by a gift of $500,000 from the Boeing Corporation. Boeing Aircraft
Professor Hank Levy was named the Microsoft Professor of Computer Science & Engineering in Autumn 1999. This professorship was created by a gift of $500,000 from Microsoft Corporation. Microsoft Corporation
Professor Dan Weld was named the Washington Research Foundation / Thomas J. Cable Professor of Computer Science & Engineering in Autumn 1999. This professorship was created by a gift of $500,000 from the Washington Research Foundation, honoring founder, board member, and entrepreneur Thomas J. Cable. Washington
Research Foundation
Professor Jean-Loup Baer was named the Boeing Pennell Professor in the College of Engineering in Autumn 1995. This professorship was created by a gift of $500,000 to the College of Engineering from the Boeing Corporation. Boeing Aircraft
In October 1999, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation donated $3 million to UW CSE to create two Endowed Chairs, which we hope to fill in the near future. Gates Foundation
