pcOrder.com Description:
pcOrder.com is a publicly held software company in Austin, TX providing e-commerce solutions for companies in the computer industry. Founded in 1996, our company is the pioneer in establishing and supporting business to business e-commerce for computer suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, and resellers. pcOrder offers both a product and a service, so we serve as a partner to all members of the industry rather than a competitor. (Don't let the name confuse you: we don't sell computers online, we sell the software that sells computers online!) Most recently, we have begun to expand our services to the office supply and consumer electronic industries as well.
Some of the positions available at pcOrder include:
Technical Consultant
The key responsibility of the consultant is to provide technical expertise on the pcOrder Application suite. pcOrder consultants assist in the implementation, customization, and deployment of pcOrder technology. Consultants work closely with clients to understand and develop custom solutions to problems specific to the project.
Technical Pre-Sales
The Pre Sales candidate is a developer caught in a sales person's body. The role allows an individual to strike a good balance between business and technology with high levels of customer interaction. Pre Sales candidates must understand the customer's business process and be able to apply pcOrder's technology for the needs of that process. Product presentation, creation and demonstration of prototypes, and aid in the closing of deals are also main responsibilities of individuals in a Pre Sales role. They are also responsible for explaining technical architecture, answering customer questions, and writing technical components of proposals.
Software Developer
Software developers are pcOrder's strongest technical resource. An effective developer will keep current with cutting edge technologies and will incorporate innovative solutions in their product design; they must be extremely talented software designers as well as coders since they will typically have responsibility for design, development, and delivery of an entire product. A successful developer must possess an acute understanding of the business problems and pcOrder's market position and will drive the product innovations that need to occur to ensure pcOrder's continued success.
An ideal software development candidate has a passion for solving problems and crafting elegant, innovative solutions; one must be able to not only embrace new technologies, but leverage them in rapid product development cycles. Candidates must keep an open mind when evaluating and selecting technologies. Software developers employ good software engineering practices despite the time constraints of the rapidly changing e-commerce software market
Program Management
Successful Program Managers will do whatever it takes to drive a software development project to completion. Program managers are uniquely talented, having both technical acumen and an acute understanding of pcOrder's business goals and responsibilities. Program managers must be both flexible and highly aware of changing environments; responsibilities include, but are not limited to, working with strategic partners, defining specifications, building a project plan and interfacing with documentation, HCI, and QA. Program managers have the ability to quickly refocus in lieu of unexpected problems and challenges. One cannot succeed as a Program Manager without unfaltering leadership, self-initiative and incisive problem-solving skills.
