employees can support the
Campaign
for CSE in a variety of ways,
including donations of cash and/or stock.
In addition, Microsoft will match
your donation dollar-for-dollar
(up to a total of $12,000 per employee per year).
Here are the key things you need to know:
- The University of Washington is a registered
tax-exempt charitable organization under section
501(c)(3) of the Federal Tax Code. Thus, your gift
is tax-deductible, and is fully eligible for
Microsoft's corporate match.
UW's Federal EIN is 94-3079432 (technically
this is the
University of Washington Foundation).
- Complete information on the Microsoft
Employee Giving Program is available on the
Microsoft internal web at
http://give/GiftMatch.asp.
- You may give stock, or you may give cash via check or credit
card. For information on the special tax advantages
of making a gift through the transfer of appreciated
securities, see information
here.
- Microsoft has two "formal" giving vehicles:
the annual Giving Campaign, and
the year-round Matching Gifts Program.
Here is are the
Microsoft
Employee Giving Program Guidelines as of late
2003, but the details change regularly so get
the latest one from the
Microsoft internal web.
The main differences are:
- When you give through the annual Giving Campaign,
you transfer your stock or cash to Microsoft (or Microsoft's
agent), and they forward it to us and automatically provide
the match.
- When you give through the Matching
Gifts Program, you give directly to UW and complete a
Matching Form which UW uses to extract the match from
Microsoft. Here is the
Matching Gift Form as of
late 2003, but get the latest one from the
Microsoft internal web.
- You will actually be giving to either:
- UW Computer Science & Engineering
Endowment for Innovation and Leadership
99-6338.
This endowment provides funding that the CSE Chair uses
to invest in initiatives that have the promise of
significantly increasing UW CSE's innovativeness and
competitiveness in any of its three critical missions
of education, research, and service.
- UW Computer Science & Engineering
Annual Fund 64-1101.
A "current expense" fund that similarly supports
all of UW CSE's priorities: faculty, graduate students,
and undergraduate students.
(At
http://give you
can search for "UW Computer Science" or "CSE" or "UW%CSE" and
you'll find these funds.)
For further information, and online giving, look
here.
- If you made a multi-year pledge to the Paul G. Allen
Center for Computer Science & Engineering, you can
fulfill your annual commitment through the
Microsoft Employee Giving Program:
- UW Computer Science & Engineering
Construction Fund 65-3384. This is
only for fulfilling pre-existing multi-year pledges, not
for new contributions to CSE.
For further information, and online giving, look
here.
- Finding us via http://give as
of October 2004:
- Select "Give Money" -> "Matching Gifts" -> "Matching Gifts Program"
- Select "Give Now!"
- Select "Organization Lookup"; enter "UW Computer Science" or "CSE"
or "UW%CSE"
- Choose "UW Computer Science & Engineering Annual Fund" to make
an annual fund contribution (or the Endowment to support our
permanent endowment, or the Building to make a payment on an
existing pledge to the Allen Center -- these three CSE funds are
listed on the Microsoft Giving website)
