Faculty/Staff/Retiree Campaign
|
|
UW will provide a 100% (1:1) match for faculty/staff/retiree
endowment gifts of between $5,000 and $10,000 paid over
as many as 5 years!
You're probably familiar with the
Students First student endowment matching campaign: UW
will provide a 50% match for any gift (including a group gift)
of $100,000 or more that establishes a new endowment to support
undergraduate or graduate students.
(CSE Students First information
here.)
There is an entirely separate program that provides a
100% (1:1) match for any gift by a faculty
member, staff member, or retiree (including
Affiliate faculty members!) that totals
between $5,000 and $10,000 over a 5-year period!
As with the Students First matching program, your gift
must go towards an endowment that supports students.
Unlike Students First, though, your gift can go to a
pre-existing endowment -- funds from multiple
faculty/staff/retiree donors, matched 1:1 by UW, can be
directed towards the same pre-existing fund, building a
substantial endowment from a number of matched
contributions.
Here are the details:
- The FSR match is available to any
UW faculty member, staff member, or retiree
(including Affiliate faculty members!).
- You must commit a minimum of $5,000 to obtain
the FSR match. Up to $10,000 will be matched.
- Your contribution may be pledged over a period
of as many as five years.
- Payments may be retroactive to May 2005.
In other words, if you gave to a CSE student
support endowment between May 2005 and now
(or if you gave to the CSE Annual Fund),
that gift can be counted as part of your pledge!
(Your entire pledge must be directed to a single
fund in order to qualify for the FSR match; we can
re-target gifts that were made to the Annual Fund.)
- If you work at UW, you can use payroll deduction
to simplify the process. ($80 per paycheck for 5 years
would obtain the full $10,000 match.)
- If you are an Affiliate faculty member working at
a company that matches gifts, the corporate match will
"count" and be matched by UW -- e.g., $5K from you + $5K
from your employer will be matched by $10K from UW!
- This is a one-time thing -- $10,000 per person is
the limit on the match that can be obtained from this program.
- Pledge forms must be submitted no later than
December 2008 in order to be eligible for the match.
It is possible to set up a new endowment as part of the FSR
match program. And, of course, faculty/staff/retirees who
can give at the $100,000 level can obtain a 50% match for
the entire amount through the Students First match program.
(If you're interested in either of these routes, contact
Ed Lazowska.)
But to make it simple, we are focusing on the following
three existing endowments:
- The CSE Educators Endowment 99-0415 (CSEEDU). This is an
endowed fellowship fund that supports graduate students in CSE.
- The CSE Undergraduate Excellence Endowment 99-1008 (SCHOEX).
This is an endowed scholarship fund that supports undergraduate
students in CSE.
- The CSE William Chan Endowment 99-6431 (CHACSE).
This endowment provides recognition to the graduate students
who author the top Ph.D. dissertations in CSE each year (the
dissertations that we forward to the ACM Doctoral Dissertation
Award competition).
Making a commitment and obtaining the match is easy!
- Print and complete the pledge form linked
here (pdf)
- Enter the identifying information for one of the
above endowments
- Ignore the "statement of purpose" (that's for new
endowments)
- Enter "Computer Science & Engineering" as the
"pledge designation"
- Check "Fellowship" if you have chosen the CSE Educators
Endowment,
"Scholarship" if the CSE Undergraduate Excellence Endowment,
or "Student Support" if the CSE William Chan Endowment
- Complete the "intent fulfillment instructions" in
accordance with your plans
- Sign the form and return it to Ed Lazowska.
- If you'd like to contribute by payroll deduction,
please print, complete, and return to Ed the payroll
deduction form linked
here (pdf).
- If you are an Affiliate faculty member working at
a company that matches gifts, the corporate match will
"count" and be matched by UW -- see special information
for Affiliate faculty at
Google,
Intel,
and
Microsoft.
(You should fill out the pledge form for the full amount -- your
contribution plus the anticipated corporate match.)
- IMPORTANT: To receive "credit" for a gift
made to the same fund (or to the CSE Annual Fund) since
May 2005, contact Ed Lazowska. Similarly, contact Ed
if you would like to establish a new endowment under
the FSR match program, or under the Students First
match program.
Great students are the lifeblood of our program. This is a highly
leveraged way to support CSE's great students!
