Animals

In Sieg Hall we were highly tolerant of animals. However, in the Allen Center we've decided, reluctantly, to make a change. In particular, despite the many legitimate and heartfelt reasons to be in favor of welcoming animals into CSE, we have imposed a ban on animals for a combination of the following four reasons:
- we believe that it is important to keep the Allen Center in good condition, and to convey to people that this is important;
- some people in CSE feel uncomfortable with dogs, although they are not always willing to voice this discomfort;
- state code precludes animals in the building; and,
- people with allergies may have increased problems in the Allen Center, which in contrast to Sieg Hall has many rugs and air-moving systems.
Although different people on the executive committee had differing views of the importance of each of these issues, there was broad consensus that the negatives of allowing animals in the Allen Center significantly outweigh the benefits.
