 CSE 143

During autumn quarter of the 1998-99 school year, UW worked with North Seattle Community College in its first iteration of the TVI process using CSE 143 ("CS 2") as the TVI course. Students at NSCC worked under the tutelage of Keith Hughes, using UW materials prepared by UW CSE professor Richard Anderson.

There were, inevitably, glitches -- technical (as we evolved the format and quality of the digital materials), logistical (getting assignments and exams back-and-forth for evaluation), preparation (non-uniformity of the pre-requisite first course) and other. But the bottom line is that the NSCC students completed all of the course work, homework assignments, and exams better than on par with their UW counterparts.

UW is grateful to Keith Hughes, Dennis Schaffer, and Tom Griffith at NSCC for joining with us as pioneers in this venture. Keith had to step up and save the situation more than a few times; we would never have dared even attempt the experiment with a less capable team.
