Textbook: Kenneth H. Rosen, Discrete Mathematics and its Applications, Fifth Edition, McGraw-Hill, 2003.

Grading: The course grade will be based on homework, a midterm and a final. Note that the values below are approximations only and may change:

Homework45%
Midterm
Nov. 7th
20%
Final
9:30 class - Dec. 16
1:30 class - Dec. 12
35%

Homework:Homework will be assigned on Wednesdays and due one week later in class. Every day an assignment goes past due results in a loss of 1/3 the potential value of the assignment:

On timescore *= 1.0
1 day latescore *= .66
2 days latescore *= .33
3 days latetoo late

Collaboration: Discussion of homework is acceptable, what is not is copying someone else's solutions, or taking notes about someone else's ideas. There is a fine line between 'discussing a problem' and cheating; when in doubt play it safe as similar solutions tend to be noticed. Finally, you should note that without preparing via the homework you stand little chance of succeeding during the midterm and final. Therefore, doing your own work is in your own best interest.

Course Web: All handouts and a log of all mail sent to the class mailing list will also be available on the course web at the following URL: http://www.cs.washington.edu/education/courses/321/03au/

Mailing List: The class mailing list is cse321@cs.washington.edu. Instructions for subscribing to the class mailing list can be found on the course web. We will use this list for announcements of general interest to the class. Students should also feel free to use it to ask questions, post information, or initiate discussions of general interest to the class. Questions or comments that are not of general interest should instead be directed to a TA or instructor at the addresses above.

Special Accommodations: If you would like to request academic accommodations due to a disability, please contact Disabled Student Services, 448 Schmitz, 543-8924 (V/TDD).
