Announcements

  • [11/23] Holiday closures: Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, the following changes are in effect:
    • There is no section on Thu 11/26, and no pre-section problems to work on this week.
    • There is no lecture on Fri 11/27. (We still have lecture as usual on Wed 11/25. I realize that some of you may ditch because of travel, but you are still responsible for learning the material covered.)
    • The IPL closes on Wed 11/25 at 5pm and will remain closed and locked on Thu 11/26 through Sun 11/29 inclusive. (Other on-campus labs may still be open.)
    • There will be no new homework given out on Wed 11/25.
    • Since 11/26 is a holiday, Thursday is considered a "free" day that does not count toward homework lateness. In other words, if you submit HW7 late by Wed 11/25 at 11:30pm, that counts as 1 day late. By Fri 11/27 at 11:30pm, that counts as 2 days late. By Sat 11/28 11:30pm is 3 days late. And by Sun 11/29 at 11:30pm (the final cutoff) is 4 days late.

    Enjoy your long holiday weekend!

  • [11/23] Research study opportunity: UW Research Scientist Ken Yasuhara and instructor Ruth Anderson would like to do a study about CSE 142 students, their backgrounds, and their interest in computing. They are offering Amazon gift cards as compensation for participating in the study and doing a brief interview about the course. For more information, check out the Research Study thread on our message board.
  • [11/21] icon Homework 7 (Personality Test) Facebook App is now posted. Go take the personality test and find out your personality type!
  • [11/21] CSE 143: I hope you'll consider signing up for CSE 143. We will use the same textbook and continue in the same spirit as CSE 142. If all sections are full, email cse143@u.washington.edu with your student information and the section(s) you want to join. They will put you on the waiting list.
  • [11/20] Academic integrity reminder: Please make sure to turn in your own work on the homework assignments, and do not give or receive inappropriate help from other students. Don't look at other students' code and don't share your solution code or details with friends. We have already had to accuse 55 students of violating our cheating policy so far this fall. Please be careful.
