Our lovely group of TAs poses for a picture (Spring 2013).
The introductory programming courses at UW (CSE 142 and CSE 143) are unique in that undergraduate teaching assistants manage a large portion of the course (teaching section, grading, etc.). The TA program offers a rare opportunity to undergraduate students to become teachers themselves. Around 70 TAs work each quarter to keep the cogs of CSE 142/143 turning!
UW principal lecturer Stuart Reges first used undergraduate TAs when he taught at the Unversity of Arizona. He also developed such a program at Stanford before coming to UW. The structure of the UW undergrad TA program therefore closely mirrors that of Stanford.
