Character personalities

Cat: A bit naive, silly, and definitely hungry. The Coyote in coyote and road-runner sketches. Trying too hard with not enough cunning.

Fish: Aloof, somewhat unfazable. Vaguely amused by the antics of the cat. The road-runner. Although the cat is the protagonist, we still like the fish in it's own strange way. Fish is never frightened, not because it's stupid, but because it doesn't care. After all, fishy knows something the cat doesn't.

Total Length: 2078 frames / 69.3 seconds (20-frame overlap between scenes 8 and 9)

Shot 1: "hungry cat"
Cat action: Cat sways head back and forth (following fish) and swishes tail. Tempo should match shot 2.
Cat animator: Ellen
Shot length: 149 (frames 0-148)
Status: Done

Shot 2: "we see the fish"
Cat action: Cat simply watches fish, head moves slowly from left to right as fish swims by.
Cat animator: Ellen
Fish action: Fish is above head-height of cat, swims from left to right, then down and we see it swim inside the front of the castle.
Fish animator: Adam
Kelp animator: Lee
Shot length: 239 (frames 0-238)
Status: Done

Shot 3: "pounce and smack"
Cat action: Begins crouch, jumps at tank and collides. Base slides/skitters as it leaps, but does not become airborn. At impact, head connects first, then shoulders, then whatever else is needed to make a realistic looking impact. Fall to ground, or do whatever recovery from the impact looks most reasonable.
Cat animator: Nick
Fish action: Done
Fish animator: Shawn
Shot length: 211 (frames 0-210)
Critical frame: Frame #55 - The cat impacts with the tank (a couple of frames later the fish should react)
Status: fish is done! it's in all-13, needs merging with bubble of all-12-withbubble
cat/bubble timing need tweaking as per last email
[ellen just volunteered to work on this Tuesday, can anyone help?]

Shot 4: "head shake"
Cat action: Cat shakes head, scopes out the edge of the tank with a rectangular head movement. Cat begins to turn head, as if it were pivoting its body.
Cat animator: Joanna
Shot length: 256 (frames -10 - 245)
Status: Done

Shot 5: "exit stage right"
Cat action: Cat turns around and leaps off screen. After a long pause, see cat leap onto screen and begin another leap. As the cat almost reaches the ground, cut.
Cat animator: Nick
Fish action: Fish resumes circling, goes back inside the castle and comes out. (Recycle animation from shot 2?) The fish comes to a stop and then we see it react to the approach of the cat BEFORE we see the cat come on screen. It blows a bubble.
Fish animator: Shawn
Kelp animator: Lee
Shot length: 285 (frames 0-284)
Critical frames: Frame #105 - cat leaves frame
Frame #225 - fish reacts to cat charging from offscreen
Frame #255 - the cat bounds back onto screen.
Status: Done

Cat animator: Nick
Shot length: 49 (frames 0-48)
Status: Done

Shot 7: "in the tank"
Cat action: See cat land, it comes in almost vertically. It straightens up, looks left and right, then jumps straight up and pivots 180 degrees before landing.
Cat animator: Nick
Shot length: 227 (frames 0-226)
Status: Done

Shot 8: "where's the fish?"
Cat action: Cat is startled, leans back as fish comes into view, slumps forelimbs to look dejected.
Cat animator: Nick
Fish action: Fish swims into view, blows a bubble.
Fish animator: Stephanie
Shot length: 146 (frames 0-145) (with 146-185 for cross-dissolve)
Status: Done

Shot 9: "wide shot"
Cat action: Cat is immobile (but not static.) Droop ears, maybe swish tail a little and have minimal head movement, but basically do very little.
Cat animator: Nick
Fish action: Fish swims through the mug handle, then up and around the plant and then over the tank.
Fish animator: Shawn
Plant animator: Lee
Shot length: 476 (frames 0 - 475) (with frames -40 - -1 for cross-dissolve)
Status: looking great, but the fish can use just one last tweak... When the fish moves from the cup to the plant in frames 140-200, it looks like it is being pulled by a current -- Would it be hard to keep the timing the same, but add a tail wiggle throughout that segment so that it looks like it's propelling itself? [anyone?]
