CSE 590 EM: Environmental Modelling

Winter Quarter 1999
Class meetings: Fridays 2:30-3:20, EE1 003

Seminar coordinator: Alan Borning

In CSE 590EM we will be reading a set of papers on environmental modelling, looking for open computational problems, and identifying interesting CS research issues that arise from these problems. I expect that these issues will be mostly in human computer interaction, simulation techniques (in particular for coupling multiple diverse models), parallel computation, and databases. The initial focus will be on urban modelling, including land use, land cover, and transportation. We'll also read some papers on global change, since much of that work is relevant to the detailed urban models. From there we may branch out to some other kinds of models.
