CSE 595 -- Winter 2002 -- Textbooks and Readings
Textbook
- Contextual Design, by Hugh Beyer and Karen Holtzblatt, ISBN
1-55860-411-1, Morgan-Kaufman (recommended - also on reserve in the library
if you don't want to buy it)
Other Readings
The other readings will be mostly available online, and will be linked from
the schedule page for each week. Most of these are from the ACM Digital
Library, and are supposed to have distribution restricted to UW students,
staff, and faculty -- to enable this, I've put the pdf files in a web
directory that requires you to log in with your UW NetID.
There will also be a few in hardcopy
form, which will be distributed in class.
Boosk on Reserve
I've also put several useful HCI books on 24 hour reserve in the UW
Engineering Library. (I know that it's not always easy for PMP students to
get to the library on campus, so none of the required reading will be from
these books, just optional reading.)
-
Readings in human-computer interaction: Toward the year 2000,
Ronald M. Baecker et al. (eds), 2nd edition, Morgan Kaufmann, 1995.
QA76.9.H85 R43 1995. This is a nice but dated collection of HCI papers. I
used to use it as the text for the course - but just couldn't bring myself
to require a book with "toward the year 2000" in the title. Some former
students at your company may have copies. There are 3 copies on
reserve.
-
Handbok of Human-Computer Interaction, Martin Helander, Thomas
Landauer, and Prasad V. Prabhu, 2nd edition, Elsevier, 1997. QA76.9.H85
