Of the 30 or more prokaryotic genomes assigned to participants:
- the one whose genome has the greatest percent dedicated to
protein coding, at 97.9%, is the thermophilic bacterium
Thermotoga maritima.
-
the one whose genome has the least percent dedicated to
protein coding, at 83.3%, is the pathogenic bacterium
Staphylococcus aureus N315.
This is to be contrasted to the human genome, which is approximately
3% protein coding.
