The Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) on-line application opens
annually on September 1 and closes on December 15 for
both U.S. and international applicants. [Please ignore the November 1
deadline stated elsewhere by the Graduate School.]
It is important to read all directions carefully before proceeding. You
may wish to print out these instructions and keep them for reference.

All application materials must be received by December 15, 2008, to be considered
for admission in autumn 2009.

Application materials are submitted on line. Here is the list of
materials you will be required to provide:
- Statement of Purpose (personal statement, research statement). [Copy
and paste.] Include your reasons for wishing to enter graduate studies in computer
science. Describe your desire to do research based on any relevant experience you
have. You may also include any explanation for weaknesses in your record. Please
describe any background that might contribute to the intellectual and social
enrichment of our department.

- Curriculum Vitae (academic life). [Upload pdf, Word, plain text file.]
Similar to a resume but emphasizing your academic accomplishments--degrees,
publications, professional experience, honors and awards, work experience.
- Letters of Recommendation. You will be asked to enter the names and
contact information (affiliation, email, phone), then to activate a request for a
letter of recommendation.
- GRE scores. Please request ETS to have scores sent to the University of
Washington, institution code 4854. Scores will be delivered electronically to your
on-line application. Scores must be no more than 5 years old.
- TOEFL scores. Required of all international applicants. Please request
ETS to send scores to the University of Washington, institution code 4854. Note:
TOEFL scores are not required for international students who have earned either a
bachelor's or master's degree from an institution in the U.S., Canada, or any other
country whose official language is English. Scores must be no more than 2 years old.
- Unofficial Transcipt. You will be able to upload an unofficial
transcript. Please note that you will be asked to submit an official hard-copy
transcript only if you are offered admission.
- Application fee. There will be a $50 application fee required to
process your application by the University of Washington Graduate School Admissions
Office. You must pay on-line to be able to declare your application complete.
