Assessment Technique: Concept Map
Purpose:
To allow instructors to see how students group concepts related to parameter
passing.
Activity:
In groups, have students create a concept map about the concept "Parameter
Passing". In order to guide the students, give them the following
concept map of "Variable".
A concept map is a map with concepts and arcs. If two concepts
go together in the model, then place an arc between them. Design
a concept map for "Parameter Passing". When labeling edges in your
group, discuss why the concepts are related.
Possible Solution:
Possible Uses of Activity:
-
Students could work on this concept map individually and then compare their
map with other students in the class.
-
The class as a whole could work on a concept map (beware of instructor
influence here).
