JOB TITLE: Graduate Teaching Assistant, Computer Science and Engineering

QUARTER: Spring 2012

CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION: Graduate Teaching Assistants lead quiz, discussion, or laboratory sections, serve as a class assistants, or provide supervised teaching.

Each appointment is classified as an Academic Student Employee (ASE) and is governed by a contract between the University of Washington and GSEAC/UAW, which is found at the following web site: http://www.washington.edu/admin/hr/laborrel/contracts/uaw/addons/index.html


Signing-up/Applying for a Graduate TA Position

The TA sign-up procedure is a three step process (be sure to complete all three steps!):

1) REGISTRATION: where you indicate your wish to TA for the current quarter and list your general areas of interest. (Important: Be sure to check the box that says "I wish to TA spring, 2012")

2) APPLICATION: where you update data about your qualifications so that instructors can more easily find the best qualified TAs.

3) EDIT / ESTABLISH COURSE PREFERENCES: where you can list your TA preferences for individual courses.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Graduate TA duties and responsibilities may include the following (specific duties and responsibilities will be provided by course instructor):

PERCENTAGE OF APPOINTMENT : Full time or half-time (coupled with half-time RA appointment).

HOURS: Graduate TAs with a full appointment will not be required to work for more than 220 hours per quarter for an average of 20 hours a week, and shall not exceed 30 hours in a given week except by the TA's consent. Graduate TAs with less than a full appointment will have their hours appropriately prorated.

SALARY (monthly)
TA   -- $2,114 (pre-quals)
TA1 -- $2,209 (post-quals, pre-generals)
TA2 -- $2,292 (post-generals)

Appointment level based on academic progress. Above salaries are based on a full-time appointment. Half-time salaries are pro-rated.


Any grad student who will not have a full RA appointment in spring quarter should register and apply.

If you are unsure whether you will need to TA (e.g. you're still trying to secure an RA position), you should fill out a TA application. You may withdraw your application at any time during the TA registration period by going to the registration page of the TA website and unchecking the box that says "I wish to TA spring 2012 " or by emailing me requesting a release before March 2.

Students and faculty should assume that releases from TA assignments will not be granted after March 2.

Graduate TA appointments will be based on the following criteria:

REQUIREMENTS: UW Computer Science & Engineering graduate student. Qualified graduate students from other departments may also be considered.
