DEPARTMENT: Computer Science and Engineering
QUARTER: Spring 2011
CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION:
Undergraduate Teaching Assistants provide administrative support for quiz,
discussion, or laboratory sections and serve as class assistants. Undergraduate
Teaching Assistants may not perform teaching duties that require full responsibility
for a course.
Each appointment is classified as an Academic Student Employee (ASE) and is
governed by a contract between the University of Washington and GSEAC/UAW, which

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Undergraduate TA duties and responsibilities may include the following (specific duties and responsibilities will be provided by course instructor):
HOURS: Variable, not to exceed 19.5 hours/week combined for ALL UW jobs. Undergraduate TAs generally work 10-15 hours per week.
WAGES: $10.50 $14.00 per hour, depending on experience as undergraduate TA.
The TA sign-up procedure is a three step process:
1) REGISTRATION
2) APPLICATION
3) EDIT/ESTABLISH COURSE PREFERENCES
** Be sure to complete all three of these steps! **
1) REGISTRATION is for entering whether you wish to TA for the current quarter plus additional information to identify you and your general areas of interest. (Important: Be sure to check the box that says "I wish to TA Spring 2011 ")
2) APPLICATION is for updating data about your qualifications so that instructors can more easily find the best qualified TAs.
3) EDIT/ESTABLISH COURSE PREFERENCES is where you can list your TA preferences for individual courses.
All students must apply each quarter they wish to be considered a TA. Students who apply and are not appointed during a given quarter will remain eligible to fill any TA openings should they occur.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR STUDENTS INTERESTED IN BEING A TA FOR CSE 142 AND 143:
New TAs for CSE 142 and 143 are selected through a separate process which includes a brief interview. Information and instructions on how to apply for these positions will be announced in the coming weeks.

HIRING CRITERIA:
Undergraduate TA appointments will be based on the following criteria:
* Academic performance and progress.
* Previous TA and lab consultant performance.
* TA/Instructor preferences as determined by the applicant and potential instructors.
REQUIREMENTS: UW Undergraduate Computer Engineering or Computer Science
major--enrolled for 6 credits or more.
