Summer Opportunities for Current Undergrads

The CSE department doesn't offer many courses for current majors during the summer, but there is plenty to do outside the classroom. The following opportunities are available through the UW, and have been beneficial to CSE majors in the past.

Co-ops and Internships
It's never too late or too early to start looking for summer work. Many CSE students use the College of Engineering's CO-OP Program to find full-time, paid positions that last three to nine months. You can also find a variety of jobs and internships through the Career Center's Husky Jobs database. And, remember to attend CSE's Affiliates Career Fairs in autumn and winter to meet recruiters from CSE's many affiliate companies.

Complete Some General Education Courses
UW offers many courses during the summer, including some you may not be able to take during the normal school year. Consider intensive foreign language courses if you'd like a full year in just one quarter. Earn some Writing, VLPA, or I&S credit with an interesting, one-time-only special topics course. Or explore courses in other departments open only to majors during the normal school year (such as Art). See the UW Summer online for more details.

Study Abroad
Beyond CSE's direct exchanges to Sweden, Switzerland, and Germany, the UW offer hundreds of study abroad programs around the world. These are excellent for fulfilling general ed requirements and experiencing some non-Seattle culture. UW's International Programs and Exchanges office coordinates these programs. Month-long Exploration Seminars are particularly excellent for students with limited time to spare.

Research
Use our standard guidelines for finding CSE research during summer, or browse the UW Undergrad Research Program's summer research site for non-CSE opportunities.

Graduate
If you're planning to graduate in summer, remember that you must apply in advance!

Non-UW Programs
Below is a list of programs not affiliated with the UW. We don't endorse these programs, so please research them thoroughly.
