I am a third-year Ph.D. student at the University of Washington in the CSE department. I am interested in systems, programming languages and distributed computing. I used to work under the advisement of Dan Grossman on research projects in the WASP group. I'm currently preparing to go on leave from UW to work on Hadoop at Cloudera, a startup focused on Hadoop support. Read more about my research.
Last year I taught a distributed computing course based on Hadoop, an open-source MapReduce implementation. I'm teaching it again, this quarter.
In 2006 I earned my B.S. degree in computer science at Cornell University. My projects as an undergraduate involved teaching other undergrads about the joy of functional programming (CS 312), building airplanes that flew themselves, and working on interesting programming languages.
Outside of computer science, my interests include photography, rock climbing, sailing, camping, guitars and music, and computer games.
