In May 2001, a group from University of Washington visited Asmara to investigate collaborative projects with the University of Asmara and other organizations in Eritrea. Areas which had been identified in advance as promising included Nursing, Fisheries, Literature, Teacher Training, and Information Technology. Our visit coincided with the 10th Anniversity of Independence, and we had an opportunity to visit the celebrations. A return visit is scheduled for February 2003 to work on establishing an Information Technology Training Institute in Asmara. The goal of the institute is to provide basic training in computer technology so support local development and education. A full report will appear on this site when we return. |
