The transom is of teak plywood, which cleaned up surprisingly well. When I started, the teak was the color of driftwood, and there was moss growing on it. The layer of veneer was too thin, and I really thought I would have to paint over the transom. One day I just started sanding on it out of pure curiosity. I went slowly, and was pleasantly surprised. Here, you see it covered with a layer of 3.2 oz satin weave cloth set in West System clear resin. The epoxy is overcoated with four coats of Interlux Clipper Clear varnish for UV protection. This view, with the bright teak against the shiny white hull, gave me my first hope that the project would go well. |
