a Heart's death

A bright green leaf
	just born today
sees light, sees leaves,
	thinks he's okay.
		With brothers following the sun,
he says "This is not what I will have done!"
I will not follow with the rest
I will not run after the light
I will do only what I want
not what they do, not what they don't
He thinks he sees
	He wants the sun
He follows it,
	but hits a trap.
A window passes
		his bright mind,
	He looks inside
		and sees his life.
A girl inside,
		all he could want
	He feels his stem,
		but feels no more.
No longer bright,
		but still as green,
	The leaf moves to
		the windowsill.
The light has no way to come,
	to meet the leaf
		where he has gone.
The leaf knows that
		he will not live,
but to the girl
		he owes it.
The leaf has grown
		in a day
More than his brothers
		in a life.
The leaf has lost
		most of his brain
but that same leaf
		has gained a heart.
A day goes by, the sun escapes.
The tree gets light, the leaf gets none
The night comes by. The leaf is still
	watching
		on the windowsill.
He sees girl laugh;
	he sees girl cry
He joys; he hurts,
	he can do none.
A day does come;
	no light does shine.
The leaf knows now
	it's time to die.
His brothers say "come on, come back,"
But his heart has
		'lected his fate...
No longer bright, no longer green,
The leaf's twice older than a twin.
The yellow's come, the blood has gone.
The leaf looks on, and sees the girl...
Will cupid come? will she see him?
Will life be filled, or death be grim?
The leaf breathes in, but can't breathe out,
	And falls the leaf,
		just to be found.
Next day, the girl is sweeping calmly,
and sees a leaf, not green, but oddly
She sees it green; she sees it bright.
She takes the leaf, but sees no life...
