"The wireless telegraph is not difficult to understand. The ordinary telegraph is like a very long cat. You pull the tail in New York, and it meows in Los Angeles. The wireless is the same, only without the cat." - Albert Einstein (likely misattributed)

I am a Ph.D. student in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Washington, advised by David Wetherall. My research is focused on wireless systems. Recently, I have been looking at UHF RFID via the USRP and GNU Radio.  I've used the platform to study commercial systems and to implement a "Gen 2" compliant software defined RFID reader (here). I am currently building RFID Sensor Networks using the SDR reader and the Intel Wireless Identification and Sensing Platform (WISP). Having the MAC and PHY implemented in software at both the reader and the tag means there is no end to the fun.
