Research Interests
My research interests lie in the design and implementation of advanced
programming systems, incorporating expressive programming languages,
efficient implementations, and supportive programming environments. I
am a member of the Washington
Advanced Systems for Programming (WASP) Group, which is made up of
UW faculty and students interested in similar topics. A list of my
past and present projects, as well as my publications related to these
projects, can be found starting from the WASP home page.
Teaching Activities
I regularly teach CSE
303 (which I created), CSE
341, CSE
401, CSE
501, and CSE
505, i.e., undergraduate- and graduate-level software development,
programming languages, and compilers.
Current Status
I am currently on leave from UW, working at Google's new engineering
office in Seattle, where I am developing and deploying advanced
programming systems-related infrastructure. Despite being on leave, I
still work on research projects and meet with members of the WASP
Group weekly.
Personal Interests
I am married to Sylvia McLaughlin Chambers and I have two daughters,
Caitlin and Adelaide (Addie). We all enjoy traveling, hiking, and
camping. I try to play Ultimate Frisbee several times a week, and the
rest of my family also plays. I also am an avid amateur astronomer.
