Carl Hartung

I'm a second year PhD student in computer science at the University of Washington where I'm advised by Gaetano Borriello. My current research primarily involves building ubiquitous computing systems. I focus on designing, deploying, and evaluating wireless sensor systems for everything from environmental monitoring to personal activity recognition. I like gadgets-- so most of my research is focused around building secure, privacy preserving systems with some combination of cell phones, embedded processors, any sensors you can imagine, and whatever wireless functionality I can find. I am also a member of the Change group at UW.

I also have a Masters in CS from the University of Colorado, Boulder where I worked with Prof. Rick Han on sensor network research. Through a collaboration between CU and the University of Montana I spent a couple summers participating in forest fire research at the National Center for Landscape Fire Analysis in Missoula, MT.

I also have a BS in Computer Engineering from the University of Washington. For more information you can check out my CV.
