Personal Information

When not saving the world from inclement evil, I am currently a grad student in the Computer Science and Engineering department here at the University of Washington. I originally hail from Pewee Valley, Kentucky (yes, that is it's name!) and I attended Butler University in Indianapolis for my undergraduate work. If you don't know what state Indianapolis is in, assume it's in Uzbekistan. You know, it's that state right between Paraguay and Andorra. While there, I earned my B.S. in computer science and mathematics (despite my initial attempts at being a creative writing major).

Currently, I am part of the CS Education & Educational Technology Group under Richard Anderson. Specifically, my interests lie in developing educational tools to identify and/or correct cognitive difficulties in the learning process. Such tools can range from the study of new collaborative learning techniques, creating in-class assessment tools, or the development of intelligent applications for people with reading disabilities (like dyslexia).

Aside from my research focus on education, I am also very interested in the practice of teaching. I am active participant in my department's Educational Technology Reading Seminar and Educational Technology Practice Seminar. I have also helped in several outreach programs in which I have had the opportunity to deploy several fun activities.

Finally, I have also had the please of TAing several classes within the CSE department. I truly enjoyed interacting with my students and felt truly honored when they awarded me the Bob Bandes TA award.
