I actually manage to do things that are mostly unrelated to computer
science. My main interests are running and reading*. I've also been
known to hike, play the guitar and volunteer. For what you might ask?
I've acted as a scribe for students who can't write, taught all sorts
of people about computer science and acted as a convenience store
operator for the good of the department.
* I've been told that the vast majority of my
"reading" is done by listening to audio books on my ipod that I'm not
actually reading.
On my honeymoon, I visited the fascinating ruins of Pompeii. This story brings the city, the time and, most importantly, the people to life.
This is an exciting mystery/action novel set on the Princeton campus involving deciphering an ancient Renaissance text. It's kind of like the Da Vinci code, sort of. I found it to be a good read, although part of its appeal was its constant reference to the buildings/traditions of Princeton, where I spent my undergrad years.
I'm already reasonably close to being a vegetarian and this book makes me want to go fully veg. I probably won't, but it definitely brings up valid concerns about the treatment of animals that don't get enough attention IMO.
Basically a coming-of-age story, where the main character also happens to be blind. Great story. The guy rides a bike for the first 30 years of his life!
