Meeting with the President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, and his students

The president, whose background is in aeronautical engineering, is also Professor of Technology and Societal Transformation at Anna University, Chennai. This meeting focused on how emerging technologies and computational neuroscience research could be used to help mentally-disabled children in India.

Two of the president's graduate students: Shiva Kumar on the left and Father George Athappilly on the right. Shiva Kumar is developing a low-cost cochlear implant for the deaf while Father George is a first-year graduate student pursuing his goal of using ideas from bioengineering, neuroscience, and computing to help the mentally-disabled.
