The president, whose background is in aeronautical engineering, is also Professor of Technology and Societal Transformation at Anna University, Chennai. This meeting focused on how emerging technologies and computational neuroscience research could be used to help mentally-disabled children in India.

Shiva Kumar is developing a low-cost cochlear implant for the deaf while Father George is a first-year graduate student pursuing his goal of using ideas from bioengineering, neuroscience, and computing to help the mentally-disabled.
