Call for Papers
The 9th Biennial Workshop on Data Bases and Programming Languages (DBPL'03) to be held on September 6 - 8, 2003, in Potsdam, Germany, continues the tradition of excellence initiated by its predecessors in Roscoff, Finistère (1987), Salishan, Oregon (1989), Nafplion, Argolida (1991), Manhattan, New York (1993), Gubbio, Umbria (1995), Estes Park, Colorado (1997), Kinloch Rannoch, Scotland (1999) and Marino, Rome (2001).
Over the years DBPL has established itself as the main venue for publishing and discussing new ideas at the intersection of database and programming languages research. Many key contributions in query languages for object-oriented data, persistent databases, nested relational data, semistructured data, as well as fundamental ideas in types for query languages have been first announced and discussed at DBPL. Today's emergence of new data management applications like Web services, XML processing, and peer to peer data management lead to a new flurry of creativity in the area lying at the intersection of data management and programming languages, and DBPL understands itself as a destinations for such new ideas.
DBPL'03 solicits theoretical and practical papers in all areas of Data Base Programming Languages. Papers emphasizing new topics or foundations of emerging areas are especially welcome. Suggested topics include the following, which is not to be considered as an exhaustive list:
Location: The workshop
will be held immediately before VLDB'03 in Potsdam, a beautiful location near to
Berlin, the location of VLDB'03. Potsdam is easily reachable from Berlin by
local trains. Participants can conveniently stay in Potsdam when attending VLDB

Submission of Papers: The address, telephone number, FAX number, and e-mail address of the contact author should appear on the title page of the submission. Submissions should be limited to 10 pages (with font size at least 11 pts) and may consist of extended abstracts. It is recommended that each submission begins with a succinct statement of the problem and a summary of the main results. If the authors believe more details are necessary to substantiate the main claims of the paper, they may include a clearly marked appendix to be read at the discretion of the committee.
Electronic and hard copy submissions are accepted; however, electronic
submission is strongly preferred. Instructions for electronic submissions will
be posted on www.cs.washington.edu/homes/suciu/dbpl.
Accepted papers will be published in informal proceedings available at the workshop, and on the Web using the CEUR-WS electronic proceedings site, http://CEUR-WS.org/.
