Mt. Adams Undercast
Mt. Rainier National Park
June 1989
The week before our wedding, Margaret and I tried climbing Mt. Rainier's
Kautz glacier route. Unfortunately, winds were so severe at our 11,000' high
camp that our tent's aluminum poles snapped and the fabric ripped. Retreat
seemed prudent and we descended to a sheltered area at 9000'. It was a frigid
and disappointing night, but the view across the Tatoosh range to 12,276'
Mt. Adams was reward enough.
