The UW CSE community consists of nearly 1000 individuals-- faculty, staff, and students in four programs. Some of the content available from CSE web servers is prepared directly by them. There is little or no departmental review of that content. Thus, it is possible for authors of specific content to examine and use request information, including information that may reveal the requestor's identity, in ways not described below. However, the statements contained here are a full description of our activities for department content, and are an unenforced statement of intent for our entire web.
Like virtually all web sites, CSE collects logs of all requests made to our web servers. We do not share them beyond the local user community, but they are widely available to that community. Details on our logs are here.
We do not sell, rent, loan, trade, or lease any personal information collected at our site, including membership forms or email lists.
HTTP cookies are used in two main ways on our site:
- For authentication of local users via our proprietary "CSENetID" authentication scheme. Details are here.
- On an ad-hoc basis in certain mostly internal, mostly administrative web tools. For example, to hold preferences in the spam quarantine and faculty recruiting tools.
- IP Monitoring Policy (CSE internal use only.)
