CSE Instructional Labs

Lab facilities are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to all CSE students and others enrolled in CSE majors and graduate courses, subject to access restrictions as noted.

General access labs (CSE002, 006 & 022) and the Unix Cycle Servers are available for any use that furthers student educational goals. Special purpose labs (see list below) and the Web, Database and Project Servers are limited to use by students enrolled in specific courses.

A large variety of software is available for both Windows and Unix systems. The software installed in these labs may vary slightly, based on the needs of the courses being taught in any given quarter. A list of all courses for the current quarter, and what laboratory resources they are using is here.

All labs are open and available most of the time; however, there are some exceptions:

  • Labs will be closed for weekly maintenance according to the following schedule (see Notes below:
CSE 002   Closed 2-6am Saturday morning
CSE 006   Closed 2-6am Sunday morning
CSE 022   Closed 2-6am Monday morning
  • Faculty or staff may on occasion reserve a lab for instructional purposes or special events, for example demonstration of final projects or a visit by middle-schoolers. Use the CSE reservation system to view and make such reservations.

Notes:
  • Unless otherwise posted there are no time limits imposed on use of the workstations for instructional (course) work. You may also lock a workstation, but only for brief periods (e.g. potty breaks).
  • If you need a workstation and find that all are locked or otherwise in use feel free to reboot one that has been locked for more than 15 minutes.
  • Access to special purpose labs is limited to students enrolled in graphics, certain capstone, and hardware design courses, and only for course work in those respective courses.
  • For a list of the computing facilities and software used by all CSE courses, click here.
  • Only one lab will be closed for maintenance at any one time, so 24/7 access is assured. The maintenance time allows us to keep all computers updated with the latest patches and to accommodate changes in instructional software during the quarter.
