Introduction

Sieg 322 has been remodeled and reconfigured (Summer 2000) to serve as a multi-purpose room: conference room, motion capture room, and videowall room for teaching, teleconferencing and other educational purposes. It is a joint venture between CSE and UWTV, with generous donations from Sony, among others.

The videowall is a 4×3 matrix of 50-inch Sony rear-projection display units, measuring 7' tall by 13' wide. It is controlled by a touchscreen display located at the console at the rear of the room. S-VHS and DVD players are available at the console, as well as a network-connected workstation. Additional video hardware - an additional DVD player, DVCAM, HDCAM and BetacamSX decks are available in the back room. For the curious, specifics on this equipment are available.

In addition to these various playback devices, an HDTV stream from UWTV is also available for display on the videowall.

Future expansion of the equipment available at the console includes an additional DVCAM deck, easier access to the videowall for laptops, and teleconferencing video cameras and document / transparency stand.

Documentation of the touchscreen controls is available online, and the equipment at the console may well be sufficient for your videowall needs. If you have questions or feel you need access to equipment in the back room, please contact Stephen Spencer at 6-3281 or by e-mail at spencer@cs or Rod Prieto at 3-2928 or rprieto@cs.
