CSE Linux 2011 – 2012

The new CSE Linux distribution (F15) for 2011-2012 will be installed on Lab supported Linux machines beginning late July of 2011, with as many machines as possible being updated by the end of September. Hopefully all Lab-supported Linux machines will be updated by the end of November, 2011, when we stop supplying updates for the F13 version.

End of support for F13: Nov 30, 2011

Our CSE Linux distribution for 2011–2013 is Fedora 15

In this release we migrate to the 64–bit version of the OS. The above link has more details about the distribution.

Our supported java is now OpenJDK from the Fedora distribution. We are no longer installing the Sun/Oracle jdk.

We are re-introducing XFCE4 as an alternative desktop to GNOME.

Our standard CSE Linux distribution is now 64–bit Fedora. We support 64–bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux in special cases. Look here for additional information.

Plans for the Future

  • For 2011-2012 our Fedora will support 32–bit acroread and 32–bit flash-plugin. We will likely drop all 32–bit applications in a future release.
  • More of our services are expected to migrate to virtual machine images.
