Date: Thu, 11 Sep 2003 17:39:31 -0700 (PDT) From: John PetersenTo: all-faculty , cs-grads-urgent , cs-staff Subject: [Cs-staff] UNIX fileserver migrations...TOMORROW 9/12 starting at 5 PM The following fileservers will be migrated to new hardware in the Allen Center starting tomorrow at 5 PM. bald.cs.washington.edu dark.cs.washington.edu fury.cs.washington.edu jack.cs.washington.edu bald.cs.washington.edu will go down AT 5 PM. Others will go down with a 15 minute warning to users logged into those machines. At most, one host at a time will be down and inaccessible, while a migration is in progress. The new fileservers have new names, here's a mapping of how things will be moved: bald.cs.washington.edu -> coco.cs.washington.edu dark.cs.washington.edu -> skyo.cs.washington.edu fury.cs.washington.edu -> echo.cs.washington.edu jack.cs.washington.edu -> tebo.cs.washington.edu If your GWS home directory is located on one of these servers your e-mail will also be inaccessible while the migration is in progress for your server. If this migration takes more than one day, migration will stop as the server in progress is completed, and will begin again at 5 PM the next day. All affected content will be left in an operational state during the layover, and the system alert will be updated to reflect the status of the migration as it proceeds. For a complete listing of affected filesystems, please see: http://rtfm.cs.washington.edu/cgi-bin/wreq/req?show-all-1-58202 This link will also be available from the system alert page. My apologies for the short notice, but all of the required pieces were not in place until today. --John -- John R.
