FOR ADVANCED USERS

This page is designed to walk you through configuring RPC over HTTP (outlook anywhere) for Outlook 2003 and above, which will allow full Outlook functionality from any location that allows port 80/443 traffic.

Important Notes:

1. Install the CSE windows certificates

In order to use RPC over HTTP, SSL is required. You will need to install the root certificate of the CA and the exchange server. Download the following winzip archive and extract the files to your desktop:

https://farmer.cs.washington.edu/exchange/certs.zip .

You may be warned about the farmer certificate, Click OK/YES/proceed to this website.

Next, right click on the downloaded certificate(s) and select "install" (you must do these steps once for each certificate).

When the wizard appears, select the "NEXT" button

On the screen above, select the bottom option button, and click "browse"

!!!!!Important: You must install the certificates into the proper container!!!!

For 64exchsrv1.cer and e2k7.cer, On the little screen that appears, select "enterprise trust", for the CAcert.p7b, selete "trusted root certifiacte authorities" and click "OK".

When the little screen goes away, click "next" on the box that is left.

On the screen above, click "finish" and then "ok" on the dialog that appears after (repeat for all certificate).

2. Configure Outlook for RPC over HTTP (outlook anywhere)

First, close Outlook. During this procedure, you may be asked for your logon information more than once. Please enter it in the DOMAIN\Username format:

Open up the control panel, and find the mail icon. Double click it and see:

Click the EMAIL ACCOUNTS button, and select VIEW OR CHANGE EXISTING E-MAIL ACCOUNTS:

On this screen, highlight the MICROSOFT EXCHANGE SERVER and click the CHANGE button:

Depending on when you do this, it can display e2k7 or exchsrv1...

Click on the "security" tab, and deselect the "Encrypt data..." (the connection will be encrypted with ssl anyway, so no need to double encrypt).

Click MORE SETTINGS... and select the CONNECTIONS tab:

Check the box at the bottom, and click EXCHANGE PROXY SETTINGS button.

Fill in the URL for the exchange server: exchsrv1.cseresearch.cs.washington.edu, select when you want to use RPC over HTTP (fast/slow/both). Also make sure to select "NTLM Authentication".

CLick OK, Apply, Finish, etc. etc. until all the dialogs are gone. Start Outlook. In the lower right hand corner of the screen, there is a tiny outlook icon. HOLD DOWN THE LEFT CTRL button, and RIGHT CLICK THIS ICON. Choose the CONNECTION STATUS option.

You should see a screen like the following, that lists the connections as HTTPS (but should say exchsrv1....)
