Worldwide access to Exchange via Outlook Web Access
CSE Home  About Us    Search    Contact Info

This page is intended to help you read your Exchange mail from a machine that you will use only briefly, for example, when borrowing use of a machine at another institution While traveling.

NOTE:  128 bit SSL encryption capable browsers are REQUIRED!!  (most are already)

The easiest way to read your email when on the road is probably by using a simple web browser. Our Exchange Server supports IMAPS & HTTPS.  The goal of this page will be HTTPS or HTTP(S for Secure Socket Layer 'SSL').

  1. In your Navigator 'Location' or Internet Explorer 'Address' window, type the following URL: https://e2k7.cseresearch.cs.washington.edu/owa or click here from this page
  2. In both IE and Netscape you will now see a series of windows asking you to accept a unverified certificate.  Follow the dialogs to accept this ticket as we are the ones handing you the ticket.  This ticket can do nothing malicious to your computer or anyone else's, it's just for encryption purposes.
  3. At the 'Microsoft Outlook Web Access' page (You'll know it when you see it), type in your login name.
  4. The Exchange server will now try to validate your login name with your username and password for NT (see below).  You should see a dual field authentication box comes up, enter your NT username and password..  I.E. If you use 'CSERESEARCH' then your username would be 'CSERESEARCH\tandersn'.

  1. Once your login is complete, Outlook should post an active webpage for reading mail and your ready to go.

NOTE:   Play with the pages a bit.  Look under "Options" and see some of the things you can do like setting your "out of office" replies.  Also, click on "Folders" on the lower left hand side to see more of a tree structure too your folders.  Very handy when looking for something special!!

If for some reason you run into an error or your Netscape or IE doesn't work (rare), try using a different browser or use the IMAP4 Client Configuration to read Exchange mail.
