UbiGreen
The UbiGreen project aims to encourage environmental stewardship by combining low-cost sensors, inference, and user feedback to track resource usage and "reward" green behaviors. We are carrying out this work in the context of transportation, energy, and water usage.
Our first UbiGreen project, the Transportation Display, uses activity inference to display transportation activity information on the background of an individual's mobile phone. The UbiGreen Transportation Display gives people an ambient awareness of their weekly transportation usage and how much CO2 they have saved for the week. The Transportation Display makes people more aware of their transportation patterns and gives them positive feedback when these patterns have less impact on the environment (e.g., walking, biking, or taking public transit). UbiGreen can help people make personal changes that can improve our global environment.
