Allen Center wireless upgrade and addition of UofW SSID
The Allen Center wireless network infrastructure was upgraded in early April. This upgrade will provide a more robust wireless network (incl. 802.11n capability), and the addition of University of Washington SSID.
The CSE-Local SSID continues to serve in parallel alongside the added UoW network. If your device is already registered with both networks you shouldn’t notice any change in service. Devices connecting to ‘University of Washington’, that have never before been registered on that network, will be redirected to a simple UW wifi registration page, and prompted for UWnetID credentials
Key benefits of this addition:
- Allows campus colleagues, collaborators, non-major students, event and meeting guests wireless access within our building without the need for manual (CSE) registration.
- Improves wireless device capacity by alleviating pressure on ‘CSE-Local’ IP space.
- Provides additional ways to accommodate external guest wifi access in the building and across campus (ie. shared accounts for events and meetings, and personal guest access for up to 3 months.)
