Ira Kemelmacher-Shlizerman
Ira Kemelmacher-Shlizerman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Washington. She received her Ph.D in computer science and applied mathematics at the Weizmann Institute of Science in 2009, and then spent three years as a postdoctoral researcher at UW CSE. She liked the department so much that after interviewing in top CS programs last year she decided to join the UW faculty as an Assistant Professor.
Ira works in computer vision and computer graphics, with a particular interest in working with the billions of photos that can be now found online or in personal photo collections. She develops computational tools to model, visualize and analyze such completely "uncontrolled"/"in the wild" collections. Her recent work enables novel visualization and 3D modeling of people's appearance and behavior from online photos. An example of her work is "Exploring Photobios", which she also transitioned, as a consultant to Google, into "Face Movie"--the signature feature of the latest release of Google's Picasa.

interview on Seattle's KING5, NewScientist, and other stories in the press.
