Mossy Bits -- Autumn 1995 -- page 30

Artist's Notes: This work plays upon the theme
of the famous Rat Rat Rat that appeared in galleries across
the nation a few years ago. Whereas Rat was a work of size
larger than an average man, Slug is printed on a mere piece
of 8.5x11 copier paper. This shrink in size symbolizes the downsizing
of corporate America. The fertile rat was printed in green ink; the
red of Slug signifies danger and anger. Finally, the words
themselves indicate the biggest change of all. Rat -- a rodent that
often feeds on human garbage. Slug -- a small shell-less mollusc or a
bullet. Will America become a garden pest easily (and accidentally)
squashed by stronger foe or will we it shoot its way through (and
ahead of) the rest?
