The Curve Fitter is a program written to allow students to explore algebra and graphing by changing control points modify the shape of a polynomial curve. It is currently being developed using Visual Basic 3.0 and the PixelSpace API.
Here is a picture of the Curve Fitter user interface. This game can be played with two to four players. Each player controls a mouse which corresponds to a colored cursor on the screen. Each cursor can move the correspondingly colored control points to modify the curve. The goal is to match a curved outline of the digital image shown on the screen in under 60 seconds. Scoring is based on how close the player's curve matches the contour of the image.
The curve fitter was written as part of the METIP project and was supported in part by the National Science Foundation under grant number MDR-9155709.
