Venue Information

The conference hotel is the University Tower Hotel (recently renamed from "Edmond Meany Hotel"), located in the University District of Seattle, Washington. Most conference events, including the technical sessions, will take place at this hotel. Note that the conference registration includes continental breakfasts on conference days.

Driving instructions from Seattle/Tacoma International Airport: Follow signs to Interstate 5 (let's call it I5). Take I5 northbound towards Seattle. Pass downtown and continue north. Exit at NE 45th Street and at the traffic light turn Right onto NE 45th Street. Continue about 7 blocks. Turn left onto Brooklyn Avenue, NE. The hotel is on the corner of NE 45th Street and Brooklyn Avenue, NE. The parking lot is accessible from Brooklyn Avenue, just north of the hotel building.

Special room rates have been contracted for with the University Tower Hotel for conference attendees. The single room rate is $109 + tax, and the double room rate is $119 + tax. After that, rooms may be in short supply and rates may vary.

- The University Inn, 4140 Roosevelt Way, NE, Seattle WA 98105, tel. 206-632-5055 (about 8 blocks away from the conference site), where singles are $102 + tax (and $10 per additional adult);
- The College Inn, 4000 University Way, NE, Seattle, WA 98105, tel. 206-633-4441 (about 6 blocks from the conference site), which is a European-style pensione (no TV, no private baths), where singles start at $45 and doubles start at about $75;
- University Travelodge, 4725 25th Avenue, NE, Seattle WA 98105, tel.206-525-4612 (about 13 blocks and a hillclimb away from the conference site), where singles start at about $84 and doubles at $94;
- The Silver Cloud Inn, 5036 25th Ave, NE, Seattle WA 98105, tel.206-526-5200 (about 14 blocks and a hillclimb away from the conference site), where singles are $89 + tax and doubles are $99 + tax.
- University Plaza Hotel, 400 NE 45th St., Seattle WA 98105, tel. 206-634-0100 (about an 8 block walk from the conference site), where singles are $99 and doubles are $109.
There are many restaurants in the University District, and it is possible to eat inexpensively. In addition the entire city is packed with restaurants of all varieties, many of which are noted for their excellent cuisine.
The conference banquet is scheduled for Tuesday evening. It will be held at Odyssey: The Maritime Discovery Center overlooking Elliott Bay on Seattle's waterfront.
Post-conference outing to Mount Rainier: We are planning a group trip to Paradise on Mount Rainier on Friday, September 15, with luxury coach departure from the conference hotel at 8:00 AM and return scheduled for about 8:00 PM. In addition to time for hiking, glacier viewing or strolls through meadows of wildflowers, plans include lunch at the Paradise Inn, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Ground Transportation

There are a variety of ways of getting from SEA-TAC International Airport to the University Tower Hotel.

Shuttle Express -- They leave 40 minutes after each hour starting at 6:40 AM and ending at 9:40 PM. At the airport, go to door 6 to check in. Prices: $16.00 for the first person, $10 for the second person, and $6.00 for each additional person going to the same destination.
Taxi (STITA stands for Sea-Tac International Taxi Assoc.) These are white cars. Go to door 6 or door 26 at the airport (either end of the terminal building). The fare will probably be in the range of $36 to $42, with $0.50 for each additional person.
Limo Service (STILA = Sea-Tac International Limo Assoc.). Price: $40-$45 for up to 4 people at the same flat rate. Go to doors 6 or 26.
