Registration
One of the most important things to know about the CSE registration process is how to get advice and help from departmental advisors. CSE advisors can help you plan your courses, register for the courses you want, and consider options should specific classes be unavailable.
The most basic advice you will hear from advisors is:
- Don’t overcommit. Ensure strong grades and thorough subject mastery by keeping a balanced schedule. We recommend no more than two math/science/CSE courses per quarter plus non-science topics (such as a VLPA or I&S requirement).
- Remember the 2:1 ratio. You should plan at least two hours of studying for every one hour spent in class -- that's 10 hours of studying per week for a 5-credit course!
- Study resourcefully. The Intro Programming Labs (IPL), the Math Study Center, and CLUE are all great resources to use to get help or study with others.
