Abstract

<p>{I}n this paper we examine some of the practical issues that arise when using retiming to optimize real systems. {W}e first propose that retiming should be an integral part of a practical system design methodology and not just a low-level optimization technique. {W}e then remove some of the practical limitations of retiming by showing how to handle clock skew and latch setup time and propagation delays. {F}inally we describe how to use retiming to generate circuits that are as robust as possible to variations in delay and clock skew parameters.</p>
