here for one of the very coolest projects in Artificial
Intelligence today, deploying AI technology on board Deep Space 1.
How about a paper on a system
that automatically creates jokes (Kim Binsted). What could make you want to read
this more than this quote from the abstract of the paper:
JAPE succeeds in generating pieces of text that are recognizably jokes, but some of
them are not very good jokes.

Here are some useful references outside your book.
- "Recent
Advances in AI Planning" (Dan Weld) explains GraphPlan and SATPLAN
quite well. Check out sections 2, 2.1, 2.2, 3, 3.1, 3.1.1, 3.1.2, 3.3,
and 3.3.1 in particular.
- For those interested in bagging, boosting, and cross-validated
committees (among other things), this machine
learning survey (Tom Dietterich) provides some good
information. The ensemble material is near the beginning of the paper.
Lisp
Here are some LISP references to help you get started in LISP. There
will be an in-class review of LISP on Wednesday 1/13.
