I work at Microsoft and am an affiliate faculty member in Computer Science at University of Washington. There is a bio of me at the Microsoft web site.
I got a Ph.D. at the University of California at Berkeley in the Math Department . I've worked at TRW, Livermore, Bell Labs, Natural Language Incorporated (a company I started with my friend, Jerrold Ginsparg) and Microsoft. While I was at Bell Labs, I was also an adjunct faculty member at Stevens Institute of Technology. I live near Seattle with my wife, Sedge, my daughter, Tori and our crazy dog Mini.
My group at Microsoft does research and development on strategic technology and works in close collaboration with Microsoft Research especially the Crypto Research Group in Redmond run by Kristen Lauter, the Security Researchers in Microsoft Research Cambridge and the Theory Group in Microsoft Research in Cambridge Mass. I have groups in Redmond (many-core operating systems and applications, security, and crypto), Cairo, Egypt (search and language based technology), Aachen, Germany (embedded systems, security, networking) and Santa Barbara (Topological Quantum Computing) so I am often travelling.
