We encourage students with multiple interests to consider double-majoring. To help double-majors manage their multiple sets of requirements, this page contains approved exceptions and suggestions for some of the most common second majors of CSE students.

Also check our our Senior Electives list, to see if your other degree requirements can count toward these CSE electives

Important notes:

  • These exceptions are only approved for double-majors, except as noted. Exceptions to standard CSE degree requirements are made on an individual basis for students not double-majoring.
  • These exceptions are designed to help students avoid redundant courses. Double-majors still complete the vast majority of CSE requirements.
  • Other departments offer similar exceptions, and so students should check with both departments for the most accurate recommendation. We've included additional suggestions where possible.

If you have questions about a major or a course not listed here, contact the undergrad advisors.

Bioengineering

  • BIOEN 481 and 482 together may fulfill the TC 333 requirement for CSE

Electrical Engineering

  • EE 271 may replace CSE 370
EE271 may also replace CSE 370 for non-double-majors, if taken before admission to CSE.
  • EE 471 may replace CSE 378

EE/CSE double majors may use Stat 390 to fulfill both EE and CSE's statistics requirements. CSE does not accept IND E 315 (the other EE Stats option) for this requirement.

Math / ACMS

  • Math 300 may replace CSE 321
Allowed for students demonstrating clear math skill in a significant number of math courses.

Stat 391 (a version of 390 for CSE majors) will apply toward a math minor.

Psychology

  • Psychology 317 and 318 together replace Stat 390

Technical Communication

The TC curriculum is flexible, and CSE requirements may fulfill TC electives. Double-degree students should work with a TC adviser to plan curriculum.
