The 18-Year-Old Who Challenged Quantum Hype

In 2025, Ewin Tang (Ph.D. ‘23) became the youngest winner of the Breakthrough Foundation’s Maryam Mirzakhani New Frontiers Prize in Mathematics for her work in quantum machine learning and linear algebra — including a classical algorithm that challenged the prevailing wisdom around quantum advantage for recommendation systems.
