Modern AI Methods Certificate Costs & Fees

The Graduate Certificate in Modern AI Methods is a self-sustaining, fee-based graduate certificate offered by the Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington. 

Fees certificate courses are charged per-credit and all students pay the same rate, regardless of their citizenship status or Washington state residency. Rates are subject to modest annual evaluation/changes and these estimates are provided solely for planning purposes.

Instructional Fees

As of autumn 2025, the per-credit rate for Modern AI Methods courses is $1148. The certificate requires 16 credits total, and each course is 4 credits. Using the per-credit rate, students can project their expenses:

In addition to their course credits, Modern AI Methods students can expect to pay about $295 per quarter in additional fees charged to all enrolled students such as the universal student U-PASS, fees for technology and campus infrastructure, and the Services & Activities Fee (includes membership at the IMA gym and campus recreation facilities).

Note: The costs and fees described above do not include books or other course supplies. 

Financial Assistance

Washington state employees: Tuition exemption is not available to Washington state employees enrolled in fee-based programs, including the Graduate Certificate in Modern AI Methods.

Employer benefits: Many companies reimburse their employees’ educational expenses. Please check with your employer to learn more about your company’s tuition reimbursement policy.
